Driving Antarctic Innovation
Team Polar is revolutionizing Antarctic logistics with an autonomous rover, named Gentoo, paving the way for a sustainable future in the harshest conditions on Earth. As an organization, our mission is threefold: to improve Antarctic mobility, to develop innovative technologies, and to foster a professional learning environment for our members.
Our Goal
Antarctica is one of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth, with temperatures dropping to -80°C, kabatic winds exceeding 200 km/h, and treacherous 100-meter-deep crevasses. Yet, beneath this icy landscape lies crucial data about our planet’s past, present and future. Ironically, the research efforts aimed at understanding climate change still rely heavily on outdated logistics: kerosene-fueled trucks and planes, leaving a significant environmental footprint in their wake.
Our goal is to have Gentoo traverse 1150 kilometers between two Antarctic stations in 2026, demonstrating the feasibility of autonomous energy and mobility solutions on this icy continent. This mission will pave the way for a sustainable future in the most extreme conditions on Earth.
