MECHANICAL ENGINEER

CHASSIS & POWERTRAIN

As a Mechanical Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for the design and development of the chassis, powertrain, suspension, and bodywork of our new rover. You will work closely with a team of talented engineers and technicians to create a functional and robust vehicle capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of polar environments. Your primary focus will be on developing the mechanical systems required for the vehicle to traverse rough terrain, including suspension, steering, and tyres.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and model the chassis and suspension for the rover, considering factors such as weight, stability, aerodynamics, and durability

  • Develop and model the powertrain for the rover, considering factors such as terrain, vehicle dynamics, and control.

  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to ensure integration of all systems within the vehicle

  • Conduct testing and validation of the rover's mechanical systems, including structural and dynamic analysis

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and engineering standards

  • Work with the manufacturing team to oversee the production and assembly of the vehicle

  • Continuously improve the design of the rover, incorporating feedback from testing

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Proficiency in CAD

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including suspension and drive train

  • Experience with simulation and analysis software, such as MATLAB & SIMULINK

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to develop innovative solutions
